Very useful, thanks for posting. Definitely could've used this a few times before.
One step I they forgot: look at whether this already exists somewhere. Frequently there are packages with largely overlapping functionality (not that new functionality is strictly necessary or sufficient for usefulness, but it can be a decent barometer).
