Data engineering is user-focused software engineering.
The main objective is not "creating software", you aren't getting paid to "churn out code", but too get people the information they need. Whatever means necesary.
That makes it, for me at least, more rewarding as a career path.
Data engineering as used in the article (and at insight) is more commonly part of the data science vs data engineering dichotomy. It's more typically considered the software engineering of data pipelines and repositories (if you will).
