One of the strengths of R is that R gets the bleeding edge/ state of the art algorithm first.
In the near future and if nothing crappy happen, I'm doing a thesis on a bleeding edge ensemble for my professor and it'll be implemented in R.
He does only R and I am starting out R first as a language to master first, Python can be afterward. We're both statisticians, well he is, and I am training to be one.
