The post is great - but it does not represent is the true position of SAS with respect to an Open Source language like Python. SAS' philosophy in this space is to embrace and extend open source tech. In fact, in the next generation of extremely scalable SAS Architecture, SAS Viya - Python, Java and Lua are poised to become front seat candidates along with SAS in being able to manipulate assets that fall within the SAS architecture. Check it out here - http://www.sas.com/en_us/software/viya.html . At SAS - our hope is to build enabling tech and deliver it in the best possible manner. This is the reason why SAS sits at the top of the pile on all independent analyst rankings for commercial advanced analytics and big data products year after year. It is all about promoting and supporting disruptive innovation while still being reliable, secure and efficient. What people don't understand is that SAS is more than just a language. It is an enabling technology under the hood that makes the magic possible - this is why it is possible to create tools that are inclusive (the gui tools) and deep and broad.

Full Disclaimer:- I am a SAS employee, just a regular one - who has seen it from the inside and am commenting here as a result. Not trying to promote, just defending SAS and clarifying our position. At SAS we are always thinking about SAS & Python, SAS & Java and not SAS vs Python.

hi there -

Its not really a ranking - but a rating.

I noticed that this was another vendor's blog post so I tried to refrain from posting third party links to promote SAS. I'd like to keep it clean and not indulge in mudslinging. The point of my post was to clarify SAS' position - but if you're interested please do your independent research by analyst firms on Advanced Analytics Platforms and Commercial Vendors. You will see that I havent misled you
